I’ve been a busy bee back here, stitching away for an exciting project I’ve got coming your way in August. Can’t show you yet so how about a little pattern freebie to tide you over?
Southern Star Paper Piecing Pattern
|The Sewing Chick‘s star from the Sew South class pattern|
There are lots of star patterns out there but this one is a great one for spotlighting small prints and rainbow hues. I used this same pattern (12″ size) when I made my Mouthy Stitches tote for Kat.
This Southern Star is the pattern I used when I taught the paper piecing class at Sew South last year. (Sew South 2014 is SOLD OUT!)
One thing to keep in mind when making this is to work from left to right. It will matter when you sew your halves together. Also, keep the paper on until the block is complete. That will help you line things up. Press your seams open too because they get bulky, especially in the center!
Don’t forget to decrease your stitch length to 1.5 when paper piecing.
