Have y’all heard about the Splendid Sampler? It’s a mystery quilting sew-along hosted by Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson, and I’m delighted to be one of the block designers.
The whole thing kicks off this Sunday, Valentine’s Day. I’ve seen some of the blocks and they are so cute. It’s a fabulous skill builder and when you’re finished, you’ll have quite an amazing quilt.
This is a mystery quilt-along and you’ll be making 6″ blocks. There will be 2 blocks released each week on Sundays and Thursdays with a break for Christmas and New Year’s. That’s a whole year of sewing!!
The block patterns are free until March 2017 at which time they’ll be printed as a book. You can sign up for notices so you won’t miss any of the patterns.
There are blocks that incorporate simple piecing, appliqué, embroidery, paper piecing and more. The Splendid Sampler website features lots of tutorials for various techniques so you can brush up on your skills if needed. How fun will it be to try something new?!
If you’ve got questions about fabric and tools you’ll need, and I bet you do, be sure to check out all the info here. I bet they’ve answered a lot of your questions there. 🙂
I’ve been dreaming of fabric combinations to work from. I think Cotton and Steel basics (with a few prints thrown in) would be really fun. Those are really never a bad idea!
Pat and Jane came up with this idea so they could bring sewists together virtually and incorporate their love of sewing with a skill-builder quilt. Sounds like fun, right? In fact there are 11,000 sewists that have joined the Splendid Sampler Facebook group which is amazing!!! That seriously blows me away! Sewists from all over the globe are gearing up to start the Sampler on Sunday. How awesome is that?
Do you think you’ll take part? If you do, be sure to join the FB group and share your blocks on social media with #thesplendidsampler hashtag so we can all see your handiwork! 🙂
