Charming Wooden Signs : Meet the Makers Series
I’m delighted to introduce you to Macey Nelepovitz of Macey Ellen Designs. I came across Macey’s work last Fall and immediately was drawn to her colorful Rifle Paper prints she uses in her work. Her clean and simple designs let the prints and patterns shine and pair nicely with the rustic wooden elements she uses.
Macey and I did a couple of maker’s swaps last Fall and I love the North Carolina sign she made for me. I also scooped up one of her small heart signs for my daughter’s room and gave it to her for Christmas. We both love it.
You’re definitely going to want to check out Macey’s Instagram feed where she posts lots of sneak peeks and new designs she’s working on. If you’re in the California area, she often does craft shows so you could see her work in person!

Macey, tell us a bit about yourself:
My Name is Macey Ellen Nelepovitz. I am a mother of 3 boys and have been happily married to my husband for 10 years. I had a career in cosmetology for around 10 years before I became a full time mom. It wasn’t long before I realized that I needed a creative outlet in my life to stay sane and be the best version of myself.
What do you make for your shop?
I make wood cutouts and signs mostly, but have dabbled in many different crafts over the years.
Describe your workshop where you create:
We have converted one room in the house into a craft room, and are in the process of converting the garage into a full wood shop. I’m usually in one of those two spaces connected by a trail of sawdust and glitter. When I have inspiration to make a new piece I’m usually on my laptop first. I look at a lot of ideas and images relating to the idea I’m working with. Once I get an idea about which way I want to go I start to design. I design the piece as best as I can on my computer. Once I like what I see I go ahead and start the process of bringing it to life.
What inspires you to create?
I’m inspired by so many things. Mostly I’m trying to create pieces for people’s homes that inspire them.
Wooden Signs and Creativity
What is your advice for living a creative life?
I’m not really sure I can give any advice on this yet as I’m still working that out. All I can say is that some days it comes easy and other days it feels like work. One thing I do know is that I never regret time spent working creatively.
Who are some of your favorite talented makers we should follow on Instagram?
I have a lot of favorite makers. @jellybirdsigns tops my list, her work has so much love in it, everything she creates is beautiful. @thelilfeltshoppe has the most adorable felt creations. @lemonystitch has some amazing washi tape and packaging materials. @pnwgirldesigns creates lovely feminine prints. @homeonfernhill has the most gorgeous farmhouse style home. There are so many amazing people on Instagram!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I would just like to encourage more people to find their creative outlets. Don’t think that just because you can’t paint a portrait that there isn’t an artist inside you that wants to make something beautiful. Play with mediums and ideas and find what clicks for you.
