Melissa Anne Company: Meet the MAKERS!
You know when you come across something that speaks to you, and you totally get it, right from the start? That was me and Melissa Anne’s fab wooden signs. They’re small and colorful and clever.
Words about life. Words to inspire. Words to keep it real.
Meet the Makers: Melissa Anne Company
I’m excited to bring you another talented maker in my Maker’s series.
I’ve purchased several of Melissa Anne’s adorable signs and y’all, you need one of these. They speak to creativity, makers, and grace. This sign below went to my awesome maker friend Kam.
She makes the cutest mini signs and has the best prints and patterns to accompany her words.
They make great gifts too and her prices are affordable. Need a mother’s day gift? How about a teacher gift? Your kid’s dance teacher, music teacher, favorite babysitter? Something for your bestie or favorite neighbor? She’s got you covered.
My favorite saying of hers is: When I grow up, I want to be me.
Because, YES! Yes! That’s the spirit!
Y’all, meet Melissa Anne Groven of Melissa Anne Company. You’re going to love her!
Melissa, tell us a bit about yourself:
I live in Annandale, MN which is a little lake town in central Minnesota. I love small town and I love water. I have one husband and four kiddos, ages 12, 9 7, and 5. (Girl, boy, girl, girl.) I started my etsy shop 3 years ago this month as a way to not only have a creative outlet but also a way to somehow let my heart have a chance to speak too. That might sound cheesy. That’s okay because it’s true. I love authentic words, unique color and pattern combinations, and wide stripes.
What do you make?
I make wood arrows, hexies, little mini signs, little pennants and flags.
Tell us about where you create.
I have a craft end-of-the-room. (Craft room would much tidier. Oh well.) I make stuff in our lower level on one end of our family room. I actually like it that way so the kids can be there watching a show or quietly playing and getting along really well (I hope you catch the humor there). I also have taken over our third garage stall with power tools and wood. I just swept it yesterday too so you are all invited to come have the royal tour. It’s almost strange to think that we actually used to park a car in there. Oh and my sewing machine is in our deep unfinished basement where I store loads of stuff including my fabric stash, which I have slashed recently. I mean, really, I have so much fabric.
Who or what inspires you?
Inspire sounds like such a big, fancy, intimidating word to me. So, I’ll try my best to answer. I really get jazzed about seeing makers or writers or musicians be true to themselves and do something not like everybody else. Doing something because they love it and it makes them happy. I love seeing authenticity and truth in words. I love a good flatlay photo too.
Words of advice for living a creative life:
One of my new favorite quotes, not so much as advice but as my own personal mantra…do it for you, not for them.
Who are some of your favorite makers we should follow on Instagram?
Well I adore Emily Kinsaul of Simple October @simpleoctober. She’s a gem. Lindsay Crandall’s writing and photography and heart are refreshing and lovely. @lindsaycrandall
I love Melissa Anne’s mantra- do it for you, not them! Amen to that!
